Listening is a crucial skill in second language learning. It is one of the two sources of new linguistic input (reading being the other source). Research has shown that linguistic input that is comprehensible and abundantly available in the classroom greatly helps the language learning process. Unfortunately, input-rich classrooms that support language acquisition are more of an exception than a rule. In many classrooms, we often see students struggling hard to understand the language used by the teachers.

Teachers can reflect on their teaching practices through many different means, one of which is through compiling a teaching portfolio. A teaching portfolio is a collection of information that allows teachers to critically look at their efforts, skills, strengths, shortcomings, and other important aspects of their work as a teacher.
